Corrections Policy
1. OUR COMMITMENT TO ACCURACY
Factual accuracy is the bedrock of Techfrontline Africa’s reporting on the continent’s digital economy. We strive to get startup metrics, VC data, and regulatory facts right the first time. When errors occur, we correct them swiftly, clearly, and transparently.
2. TYPOLOGY OF EDITORIAL AMENDS
To maintain a high-integrity repository of African tech intelligence, we classify updates into four distinct categories:
- Correction: Executed when we have published factually incorrect information, such as incorrect funding round values, misstated cap table metrics, or wrong corporate entities.
- Clarification: Executed when our reporting or analysis was technically accurate but incomplete, unclear, or open to misinterpretation by compliance teams or investors.
- Update: Executed when new, fast-moving market information becomes available (e.g., an unfolding regulatory decision or a post-close funding extension) that significantly shifts the context of a story.
- Editor’s Note: A formal statement utilized to explain structural shifts in a major investigative report or to clarify our verification and data gathering methodology.
3. THRESHOLDS FOR ISSUING CORRECTIONS
We actively issue formal corrections for:
- Factual errors (startup names, funding numbers, valuation multiples, regulatory dates, or executive quotes).
- Misattributed technical data, leaks, or corporate statements.
- Inaccurate summaries of tech policies, judicial rulings, or compliance guidelines.
- Mathematical, statistical, or data visualization errors in market charts.
- Misleading headlines, newsletter subjects, or social media captions.
We do not issue formal corrections for:
- Differences of economic opinion, market interpretation, or analytical perspective.
- Ecosystem complaints regarding our choice of story selection or homepage prominence.
- Founders, investors, or corporate entities who are simply unhappy with accurate, verified, and objective reporting.
- Minor typographical errors or code glitches that do not alter the factual meaning of the text (these are quietly updated without a formal notice block).
4. HOW TO SUBMIT A RECTIFICATION REQUEST
If you are an ecosystem operator, legal representative, or reader and believe we have published incorrect information or compromised a data record:
A. Submit Electronically: Send an email directly to editorinchief@techfrontline.africa.
B. Specify the Record: Provide the precise URL of the article, the exact paragraph containing the alleged error, and the verified data.
C. Provide Verifiable Evidence: Supply supporting documentation, such as public regulatory filings (e.g., CAC, SEC, NRS), official press releases, or verified data logs.
D. Include Credentials: Provide your full name, title, and institutional alignment so our compliance desk can follow up.
5. OUR INTERNAL AUDIT AND REVIEW PROCESS
Upon receipt of a correction or data rectification request:
- The designated sector editor and compliance officer review the claim immediately against primary records.
- We independently re-verify the data through original sources, regulatory bodies, or secondary unaligned market indicators.
- If the error is confirmed, a standardized correction block is prepared.
- Senior editorial leadership or legal counsel signs off on the final language.
- Timeline Commitments: We aim to investigate and respond to all validation requests within 24–48 operational hours, and we commit to publishing verified corrections within 24 hours of confirmation.
6. PUBLICATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF CORRECTIONS
A. Digital Platform and Web Archives
- The correction notice is structurally appended directly to the top or bottom of the corrected article file.
- The text block explicitly documents the original error, the updated facts, and the exact timestamp of modification.
- Standard Formatting: “Correction [Date]: An earlier version of this article misstated...”
- Our digital archives are updated permanently; we do not delete or unpublish accurate, newsworthy historical records except under extraordinary legal circumstances or valid NDPA 2023 data erasure mandates.
B. Social Channels and Automated Feeds
- If erroneous data is shared via our automated data feeds, LinkedIn, X, or Telegram, the original post is updated or deleted.
- For significant market errors, a dedicated correction post is pushed across the same distribution channel containing a direct link to the rectified web article.
7. PROTOCOL FOR SIGNIFICANT MARKET ERRORS
In instances where an error materially alters the fundamental narrative of an ecosystem report:
- A prominent Editor’s Note is placed at the top of the article explaining the discrepancy and detailing our correction workflow.
- We may temporarily retract or republish the entire deep-dive with highlighted, corrected data sets to preserve ecosystem data integrity.
- In rare cases where an entire investigative report is found to rest on completely faulty primary data, a total retraction notice will be published in its place.
8. CONTINUOUS INSTITUTIONAL LEARNING
We view corrections as structural indicators to optimize our internal processes:
- Our compliance team analyzes correction patterns quarterly to identify systemic reporting or feed aggregation failures.
- We implement targeted data verification training and legal refreshers for our staff and contributors.
- We continuously update our internal technical style guide and database ingestion rules based on lessons learned across the newsroom.
